Puff Pastry Apple Roses

Sharing is caring!

These Puff Pastry Apple Roses are a romantic and sweet fall treat that’s perfect for Thanksgiving brunch or Friendsgiving dessert.

I remember first seeing Puff Pastry Apple Roses nearly a decade ago and wanting so badly to make them.

But back then, my little blog was so small and I didn’t often have the resources to buy specialty ingredients when developing recipes.

And for us, puff pastry was definitely a luxury back then.

I am so grateful that over the last 11 years, we’ve been able to grow our small business and I now have the privilege of being able to develop and create all kinds of recipes, including ones with puff pastry!

I know that might sound silly, but this time of year I’m always extra appreciative and thankful for our journey and all the ups and downs along the way, big and small.

And speaking of being thankful, these Puff Pastry Apple Roses are a romantic and sweet fall treat that’s perfect for Thanksgiving brunch or Friendsgiving dessert.

What’s something big or small you are thankful for this fall?

  • Author: Giustina Miller

Ingredients

Scale
  • Puff Pastry, 2 sheets, room temperature
  • 34 Apples*(1)
  • 3 Cups Water
  • Lemon Juice, from 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 Cup White Sugar
  • 2 Teaspoons Cinnamon

Toppings, optional

  • Powdered Sugar
  • Caramel Sauce

Instructions

  1. First, preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and line your muffin tins with parchment paper or muffin tins.
  2. Cut the apples in half, remove the core, and cut the halved apples into thin slices.
  3. Fill a microwavable bowl with 3 cups water, lemon juice, and the apple slices.
  4. Microwave for 4-6 minutes until the apple slices are tender but not overcooked. *(2)
  5. Once the apple slices are cooked, remove them from the water, place them on a clean cloth (or paper towel), and gently pat them dry.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the 1/2 cup white sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon.
  7. Place the two sheets of puff pastry next to each other on a lightly floured surface.
  8. Gently roll them out a few times with a rolling pin.
  9. Cut each puff pastry sheet into 6 strips, 12 total.
  10. Place some apple slices (I used ~7) on the upper half of one strip of puff pastry (with the apple skin facing up/out of the puff pastry), sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, and fold the lower half of the puff pastry up onto the apple slices.
  11. Then roll up the strip of puff pastry apple like a cinnamon roll.
  12. Repeat steps 10 and 11 on all 12 strips of puff pastry.
  13. Place each puff pastry apple rose into a muffin tin lined with parchment paper.
  14. Sprinkle the top of the apple roses with any extra cinnamon sugar.
  15. Bake the apple roses for 45 minutes. After 15 minutes, cover with foil so that the apples don’t get too brown while the puff pastry is baking.
  16. Once thoroughly baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool for 3-5 minutes before removing them from the muffin pan and placing them on a cooling rack.
  17. Top with powdered sugar and drizzle with caramel sauce.
  18. Enjoy!

Notes

  1. I used Honeycrisp apples. The number of apples you need will vary based on the size of the apples and how thinly or thickly you cut the slices.
  2. Time will vary by how thin or thick your apple slices are and your microwave.
