Orange Dress || Edible Maple Leaves
These Apple Cinnamon Pastry Donuts are so incredibly delicious!
After baking them I quickly lost count of how many I ate, as is, with caramel sauce, and also topped with vanilla ice cream.
As I was planning this recipe, I really wanted to add a leaf on top of the apple, so I started researching edible leaves, and then I found these absolutely adorable edible maple leaves!
They are the perfect addition to these apple pastry donuts and I had quite a few extra so I used them on two other fall treats that I’ll be sharing in the coming weeks.
And while I did top it with ice cream, making it the perfect fall dessert, you could skip the ice cream and totally eat it as a breakfast pastry with a drizzle of caramel sauce and maybe even a sprinkle of granola!
Do you enjoy sweet treats that can be enjoyed for breakfast, brunch, and dessert?
ps. I tried a couple of different wrapping techniques with the puff pastry and share my results in the recipe.

Apple Cinnamon Pastry Donuts
These Apple Cinnamon Pastry Donuts are filled with fresh apple slices, surrounded by puff pastry, covered in cinnamon sugar, drizzled with caramel sauce, and topped with a cinnamon stick and edible maple leaf.
Ingredients
- 1 Package Puff Pastry (2 sheets), room temperature
- 2-3 Apples
- 1/2 Cup White Sugar
- 1/2 Tablespoons Cinnamon
- 2 Tablespoons Melted Butter
Toppings, optional
Instructions
- First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Next, gently roll out the puff pastry and use a pizza cutter to cut it into long strips. Each strip should be about 1/2 inch wide.
- Mix 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon on a plate. Set to the side.
- Slice your apple (~1/2 inch thick) and use a small cookie cutter to cut a hole in the center of the apple.
- Place each apple slice in the cinnamon sugar mixture, fully coating each side.
- Wrap puff pastry strips around each apple slice to cover each one fully.*
- Place each puff pastry-wrapped apple slice on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the top of each puff pastry-wrapped apple slice with melted butter and sprinkle the extra cinnamon sugar onto each one.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes
- Use a knife to cut a small hole in each Apple Cinnamon Pastry Donut and place a cinnamon stick and an edible leaf in it.
- Serve with caramel sauce and ice cream (or granola for breakfast/brunch)
Notes
- I tried two wrapping techniques for these Apple Cinnamon Pastry Donuts. The first way is to pull it a bit (gently), to stretch it as you wrap the apple slice. This makes the puff pastry last longer so you can make more. The second way is not to pull on it as you wrap the apple slice, and this creates a more puffy Apple Cinnamon Pastry Donut. I personally like the second way better (the puffier puff pastry), but the first way is a great alternative to make the pastry last longer so you can make a few extra.
