One of my most viral fall tutorials is for a DIY Fall Leaf Candle Holder and this year I wanted to recreate it, but in a totally different way.

Instead of using a decoupage technique, I decided to use a (low-heat) hot glue gun.

And I must say, this method is WAY faster and easier, but I think I actually prefer my other one better.

But that may just be because of the leaves I used last time.

And the fun thing about the hot glue version is that I got to pop the balloon (rather than slowly letting the air out) this time around!

Which method do you prefer, decoupaging or hot glue?

Instructions:

1. First, blow up a balloon and place 4-5 glue dots on the top rim of the mini bowl.

2. Place the knotted part of the balloon down into the center of the mini bowl. The glue dots should help the balloon stay in place.

3. Place 1 glue dot on top of the balloon and place an artificial leaf on top, with the pretty side facing out towards you.

4. Apply hot glue onto one edge of the leaf and place a second leaf partly on the first leaf and partly on the balloon. Gently press (not too hard to avoid knocking over or popping the balloon) and hold the leaf on top of the hot glue until the hot glue has hardened.

5. Continue this process of applying hot glue on the edge of the leaves and adding more leaves on top/around the balloon.***

6. Once you have the shape and size of the bowl you want, flip the balloon over, remove the bowl, and pop the balloon with scissors.

7. Remove the balloon and any glue dots.

14. Add a flameless candle***, fairy lights, and extra faux leaves to the center of the bowl.

Enjoy your new Easy Fall Leaf Candle Holder!

***Note: it is not safe to use a real candle. Only use flameless candles in your leaf bowl.

Additional Notes/Tips:

  1. I have not tried this with real leaves, I am not sure of the results or if you would need to partly (or fully) dry the leaves first.
  2. The leaves aren’t meant to stick to the balloon, if it did you wouldn’t be able to remove the balloon from the finished product at the end without potentially damaging the leaf bowl.
  3. Be gentle when applying the hot glue on the leaves so as not to apply hot glue on the balloon and accidentally pop the balloon. I used a low-heat hot glue gun.
  4. Although this is a relatively easy craft in regards to materials and steps, it does have some tricky spots when it comes to making sure the leaves are glued tight together. Near the end, I pulled off some of the leaves, pulled them tighter around/against the balloon, and hot glued them in place.
