I have a secret to share with you.

Well, maybe it’s less of a secret & more of a confession.

I double dipped on DIYs this season.

Between selling our house & moving, the holiday season has been monopolized by big changes in our house or lack thereof.

So when I made this DIY Cinnamon Salt Dough Gingerbread House last month I also made these DIY Cinnamon Salt Dough Ornaments.

I couldn’t choose between making one or the other, so I decided to do both.

And while I had originally planned on sharing this tutorial way sooner, trying to get us packed up & moved out during Thanksgiving was hectic, as has our life since then.

But at least I’m getting around to sharing this DIY Christmas tutorial now rather than in the new year!

There is always a bright side, right?

So since this tutorial is basically a copy of the DIY Cinnamon Salt Dough Gingerbread House I’ll try to keep today’s post short & sweet.

But if you are new here then let me first say welcome!

And secondly, I have a plethora of Christmas ornament DIY’s here at Domestically Blissful!

Like pages & pages of Christmas ornament tutorials which you can find by clicking here, from DIY White Salt Dough, to Faux Acorn Christmas Ornaments, to Wax Impression Ornaments, to Moss Ornaments, & so much more!!

But anyways!

If you are looking for a fun tradition, or for something your kids can make to give to their grandparents, this little (non-edible) DIY is both fun & will make your home smell amazing!

Ingredients

Scale

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl mix 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of salt, & 3/4 cup cinnamon.
  2. Next, add 3/4 cup water & mix together with a spoon, if the dough is still dry add a little more water one 1 teaspoon at a time. *(1)
  3. Knead for 15-30 seconds to create a workable dough.
  4. Next, roll out your dough & use your Christmas cookie cutters to create the shapes for your ornaments & use a chopstick to create a hole at the top of the ornament.
  5. Carefully place the dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake your gingerbread house at 200ºF for 2-3 hours, flipping the cinnamon salt dough every hour. *(2)
  7. Once thoroughly dried/baked, remove it from the oven & let cool.
  8. Paint your ornaments & let the paint dry. I used white acrylic paint & an icing tip in a plastic bag to decorate my “cookie” ornaments. To speed up the drying process I popped my painted ornament pieces back in the oven at 200ºF for about 15-20 minutes.
  9. Thread with ribbon or twine & tie a knot at the top.
  10. That’s it! Happy Christmas tree decorating!

Notes

  1. Be sure to only add a little water at a time so that your cinnamon salt dough does not become sticky. If it does, simply add a little flour.
  2. Don’t be alarmed after the first hour when the cinnamon salt dough appears lighter in color, that is just the salt being pulled to the top from the heat. You will be decorating the bottom/darker side of the cinnamon salt dough.
  3. Remember this is NOT an edible recipe.

In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
