5 Tips for Visiting Rainbow Springs, Florida, for a day trip you’ll love!

At the beginning of May, we had the opportunity to slip down to Florida for a long weekend and go on some adventures we hadn’t experienced together before.
Our purpose for the trip had mainly been to try out a variety of beautiful springs.
But one unfortunate event after another happened, and we made it to one of them.
And I’m so grateful we were able to kayak on Rainbow Springs in Florida!
The weather was perfect, the water gorgeous, and we arrived at a time when there weren’t a lot of people on the river.
Since we loved it so much (and we can’t wait to go again!), I thought I’d share with you 5 Tips for Visiting Rainbow Springs to help you plan a day trip to remember!
1. Make a Plan
Knowing what you want to do ahead of time will save you time and potentially money.
Renting a tube or kayak isn’t expensive, but you can save money by bringing your own.
Plus, there are multiple locations in which you can enter the river (like you can start by kayaking upstream or start at the top in the park and kayak down and then back up) so having a plan will help you save time for your day trip.
2. Arrive Early
We went in May, which isn’t quite peak season, but we tried to arrive early and there were only a couple of kayaks left.
When we got back to return our rented kayak, about 2 hours later, there were people who were waiting for the next available kayak to become available.
So we recommend arriving early.
And if you are going to go during their peak season, you may even want to arrive before the park even opens (check tip 5 for how you can know how busy it is on any given day).
3. Bring Water and Snacks
Summer in Florida is hot, you are going to want lots of water!
We brought plenty of water (especially since I’m pregnant) and had snacks in the car if needed.
Just don’t forget to throw away your trash so that we can help keep these waters clean and beautiful!
4. Bring Snorkel Gear
You will most definitely want snorkel gear to fully experience the beauty of Rainbow Springs!
Not only is the spring cool and refreshing, but it’s crystal clear, and you can see so many beautiful things!
I especially loved all of the fish and turtles that we saw!
5. Join the Florida Springs 411 Facebook Group
I didn’t discover this group until after our trip, but boy has it already been a great resource of information!
Whether you want details on how fast the park has been filling up recently or just general tips about any springs in Florida, this group is the one to ask!
I hope these tips help you as you plan your trip to Florida!
