5 things to do in and around Lauterbrunnen Switzerland for a day full of fun and adventure.

Lots of rain was expected for most of our vacation in Switzerland, so we took full advantage of our first sunny day in this beautiful country.

We woke up early and headed to Lauterbrunnen for a day full of hiking and sightseeing.

The day that we spent in and around Lauterbrunnen was one of my top 2 days in Switzerland.

I wish I could close my eyes and be back there, breathing in that crisp cool air while listening to the whimsical cowbells.

Maybe someday… But for today I’m going to share 5 fun things to do in and around Lauterbrunnen to help you as you plan your next adventure to Switzerland!

5 things to do in and around Lauterbrunnen Switzerland for a day full of fun and adventure.

1. Visit the Famous Lauterbrunnen Waterfall

You can see the beautiful Staubach Waterfall from a variety of places in Lauterbrunnen.

Some of my favorite glimpses of this waterfall were during our train ride back down from Kleine Scheidegg.

You can also hike up to the waterfall to enjoy a misty view from the viewing platform.

2. Explore the Village of Lauterbrunnen

There are so many beautiful things to see and experience just by walking down the many small streets of Lauterbrunnen.

If you have some extra time you could take a stroll down the sidewalk and pop into different shops while seeing this beautiful town from different vantage points.

3. The Royal Walk & Hiking to Kleine Scheidegg

One of my favorite adventures that started in Lauterbrunnen was when we took a mountain train from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen and then a gondola up to Männlichen first thing in the morning.

The train ride was only about 12 minutes and the gondola was about a 10-minute ride.

We then hiked up the Royal Walk to the tip-top for even prettier views.

After we hiked back down to where the gondola dropped us off we decided to walk to Kleine Scheidegg which took us 1 hour and 45 minutes including lots of stops to enjoy the view and take pictures.

Once we reached Kleine Scheidegg we realized we had a little extra time before lunch so we headed up to Eigergletscher (by train) before taking another train ride back to Lauterbrunnen (the train ride from Kleine Scheidegg to Lauterbrunnen was about 1 hour and 10 minutes).

I highly recommend taking the trains/gondolas up to Männlichen first thing in the morning to enjoy this easy hike during a cooler part of the day.

Although the Royal Walk is a bit steep the hike from the gondola in Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg is pretty easy and a great one for families!

4. Enjoy a Local Authentic Meal

I am all about trying the local cuisine when we travel.

And while it used to be harder to find vegetarian food when traveling, over the last half-decade or so it has become increasingly easier to find vegetarian options at a lot of local restaurants around the world.

If you have the option, I definitely recommend eating outside so that you can enjoy more of the natural beauty of Switzerland.

5. Explore Trummelbach Falls

You can drive here, catch a bus, or take a leisurely 30-minute walk from Lauterbrunnen to see these glacier-fed waterfalls inside the mountain.

We chose to do this on a rainy morning when we knew the there would be low visibility on top of the mountains.

And my goodness, the sheer force of water falling through the mountain is an absolutely incredible sight!

I plan to create a whole blog post full of tips just about our Trummelbach Falls experience so be sure to stay tuned for that! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed these 5 tips for visiting Lauterbrunnen!
