Over 10 years ago, in 2014, I shared a tutorial for a Green String Christmas Tree.
And then a few years back, I recreated it with a twist by creating a DIY Hollow Yarn Christmas Tree that went crazy viral!
This year, I decided to go back to my original tutorial and create two DIY Hollow String Christmas Trees, one decorated with pearls and one with tiny snowflakes.
I kind of wish I had used slightly larger snowflakes so that you could see them better, like I did in my original Green String Christmas Tree.
But that’s ok, maybe next time, since I have plenty of green string left to make several more.
I then added a flickering flameless candle underneath each of them, and I just love the way it looks at night!

Materials: (The products I used are linked below. Click each one to shop for products.)
Instructions:
1. First, wrap the outside of the cone in plastic wrap.
2. Brush Modge Podge over the whole plastic-wrapped cone.
3. Wrap the cone with the green string, going up and down the cone.
4. Once the cone is covered in string (with some space between the string so the light of the candle with shine through), cut the end and glue it to the cone with Mod Podge.
5. Then cover all of the string with Mod Podge, making sure to thoroughly coat it so that it will hold together when it dries.
6. Let dry thoroughly. I let it dry overnight.
7. Remove the cone from the tree, then carefully remove the plastic wrap from inside the tree.
8. Cut off any excess glue that has puddled and dried around the base of the Hollow String Christmas Tree.
9. Use a hot glue gun to attach different-sized pearls or snowflakes to the tree, as well as the pearl star on top of the tree.
10. Add a flameless candle or fairy lights to the center, and enjoy!
Notes:
- The taller the tree and/or the heavier the pearl star on top, the more likely it is to bend over time.
- I found that the glue made the string darker after it dried.
