DIY Pressed Leaves and Flower Fall Candles

How to create DIY Pressed Leaves and Flower Fall Candles with pressed leaves and fall flowers on pillar candles with my flameless candle hack to create decorative flameless candles for fun fall decor.

I couldn’t decide if I wanted to create a fall flower candle or a fall leaf candle, so I decided to make both DIY Pressed Leaves and Flower Fall Candles!

A shorter candle with pressed fall flowers and a tall candle with pressed fall leaves.

Although we won’t have fall colors for a couple of months still (usually around mid to late October, sometimes even early November – I have photos of little Roger Dale’s first fall and the peak fall foliage didn’t arrive until around November 7!), I was still able to find some beautiful options online that were already pressed and ready for crafting!

While you can use a hair dryer instead of an iron, I personally prefer using an iron as I feel like the iron has more heat control and the blowdryer can spread/blow wax where it’s not wanted.

Of course, I used my favorite little candle swap and added a mini tealight flameless candle to the center of each candle at the end (I share how to do this flameless candle hack on my blog).

This way the candles last for years to come!

Which one do you like better, the fall flower candle or the fall leaf candle?

Instructions:

1. First, place the candle on its side and arrange pressed flowers and/or leaves on the side of the candle that is facing up.

2. Place wax paper on top and then carefully/quickly iron the candle so that the heat melts the wax just enough to cover the pressed flowers.

I’ve had the iron set at 3, 4, and 6 at different times. The hotter it’s set the faster the candle will melt over the flowers/leaves (and the faster you will need to work), the lower it’s set the longer it will take for the candle to melt into the napkin (so you can work slower and take your time).

Note: Some color-corrected flowers found online can sometimes bleed their colors into the candles.

3. Remove the wax paper and repeat the above 2 steps on all sides of the candle until it’s completely covered in pressed flowers and/or leaves.

You may need to use new pieces of wax paper if any of the flowers leave a color on your wax paper.

4. After the wax paper is removed, use the iron (without wax paper) to touch up any areas as needed where the wax didn’t fully cover the flower or leaf or the iron left a funny melt mark on the candle.

5. Repeat the above 4 steps on your other candles.

Once done, while the iron is still hot, carefully wipe off any wax drops on the iron using a napkin or paper towel.

6. Follow my flameless candle hack to use a flameless candle within your real candle.

This is a safety measure I take so that the dried flowers and leaves don’t catch on fire with a real flame.

7. Enjoy your new DIY Pressed Leaves and Flower Fall Candles!

***You can use a flameless candle instead of a real candle, but I recommend finding one that is a real wax flameless candle so that there is wax to melt into the leaves and flowers. But I should note that while I have had some followers try this with success I’m not sure what real wax flameless candles they used as different brands will mostly likely lead to varying results. Just as different brands of real candles will melt differently depending on what materials the wax is made with. I’ve only used this one brand for all of my candle projects with leaves, flowers, and napkins on them as I know it works well.

  1. HI wondered how the candle burns?
The outside of the candle burns like a normal candle?
And what happens to the dried flowers and leaves if the inside of
the candle melts, does it fire or does it fall?
