Fall Dress
I am so beyond excited to share these DIY Clay Leaf Bowls with you!
I’m not a painter so mixing colors to make something as beautifully unique as a fall leaf made me a bit nervous, but I am in love with how they turned out.
Oh, and I learned a fun fact about leaves!
Just as each snowflake is unique and different there are also no two leaves that are identical in the world.
So if you use real leaves you will be making one-of-a-kind Clay Leaf Bowls! (I used fake leaves and then added extra veins to make them more unique.)
You can place them around your house to use as tea light candle holders or in your kitchen and bedroom to hold your rings while cooking or when you go to sleep.
They would make such fun and festive hostess gifts for a fall party, Friendsgiving, or Thanksgiving that are sure to be treasured.
What colors will you paint your DIY Clay Leaf Bowls?

Instructions:
1. First, cut off a piece of clay with a knife and then roll it out to your desired thickness. Mine were ~1/8-1/4 of an inch.
Note: The thicker it is the longer it will take to dry.
2. Place the leaf on the clay and press it firmly down into the clay.
3. With the clay/leaf on a craft cutting board, carefully use a craft knife to cut the shape of the leaf in the clay.
4. Remove the leaf from the clay and then remove the excess clay from around the clay leaf.
Note: I noticed that at the bottom of 2 of my clay leaves the clay had split a bit from me pressing down too hard at the base (at the beginning of the large vein). So I added a tiny piece of clay underneath the leaf and gently pressed down to connect the spit end.
5. Use a toothpick to deepen the leaf veins or add additional leaf veins.
I kept my toothpick at an angle to avoid poking through the clay.
6. Gently slide your knife between the clay leaf and the cutting board to remove it from the cutting board.
7. Place the clay leaf, pretty side up, in an oven-safe bowl.*
8. Repeat steps 1-7 to create as many clay leaf bowls as you’d like.
9. Place the bowls, with the clay leaves inside, in your oven and bake according to the Oven Bake Clay instructions.
10. Once the clay leaves are dry and hardened, let them cool, then remove them from the oven-safe bowls.
11. Pour and mix craft paint on a paper plate to create your desired color(s) and use a paintbrush to paint the inside and outside of the clay leaves. Let dry.
I also used a thin paintbrush to add a slightly darker shade of each color to the veins of each clay leaf.
12. Once dry, add a sealant to your leaf bowls, and let dry. **
That’s it! Enjoy your new DIY Clay Leaf Bowls!
*I recommend oven-safe bowls, but I have to be honest, I didn’t use oven-safe bowls as most of our belongings, including kitchenware, are still in storage (we are hopefully moving into our new home in less than 2 months). So instead, I set the temperature way lower than what the instructions on the clay says and then let it cook longer. I can’t recommend that you do this, as I don’t know the results you will have, but I like to be honest about my process.
**I completely forgot to do this step and film it. So sorry!! Before adding a sealant I recommend testing it in an area that won’t be seen, like underneath the leaf bowl.
