I am going to start by saying that I am the absolute worst at wrapping presents! Feels good to get that out in the open before we begin.
Honestly, I’ve been so bad in the past at it that I usually let (make) Roger do all of the wrapping of presents at Christmas time.
And when we have a birthday party or a wedding or baby shower I usually arrange everything in a pretty basket with pretty tissue paper.
But since next week is our Christmas in July week, which always gets me thinking ahead to Christmastime, I thought I should probably practice so that I can help Roger a little bit more this year with the wrapping process.
To make it extra fun I created a little pocket on the front and back.
I placed a card on the back (where the seam was slightly visible) and left the front pocket empty (hidden slightly by the ribbon).
Originally I planned to have dried wildflowers (leftover from the candle tutorial I shared yesterday) in the pocket, in my mind it looked way prettier than it ended up looking in real life (I think it was the type of stems I used).
So I left it simple with just the ribbon on the front.
But you could hide a second note on the inside, a gift card, a fresh or dried stem, or anything else that might fit.
While it took me several attempts to film this tutorial correctly, I feel like I’m slowly starting to get better at wrapping presents.
With little Roger Dale’s birthday coming up in a couple of months I’ll be able to get in a little bit more practice before the crazy fun holiday season.

Materials: (The products I used are linked below. Click each one to shop for products.)
Instructions:
1. Cut a large piece of wrapping paper that is larger than what you would typically need to wrap the gift. (Image 1)
2. Place the present at the top center of the paper, leaving just enough paper at the top that when folded up it reaches/touches the top of the present. (Image 2)
3. Use your right hand to lift the lower half of the wrapping paper up and over the top of the present and place your left hand on the lower half of the present (while continuing to hold the top of the wrapping paper in your right hand). Then fold back the wrapping paper that is in your right hand to form the pocket. (Image 3)
4. Carefully remove the present and flatten the paper to create creases. (Image 4)
5. Flip the wrapping paper over and place your present in the center. (Image 5)
6. Make sure that the top and bottom wrapping paper reaches the top of the present, and cut off any excess as needed. (Image 6)
7. Take the wrapping paper on the left side and pull it up and over the present. Fold the edge under and create a crease. (This is just for a more finished appearance. This step can be skipped.) Then let the left side of the wrapping paper fall back onto the counter. (Images 7-8)
8. Take the wrapping paper on the right side and pull it up and over the present. Then take the wrapping paper on the left side and pull it up and over the top. Secure in place with double-sided tape. (9-10)
9. Fold in and tape the top and bottom wrapping paper as you typically would when wrapping any present. (Image 11)
10. Place a gift card or written card on the back. (Image 12)
11. Flip the present over, so it’s right side up. Then cut the ribbon to the size of the present and place it on top of the present. (Images 13-14)
12. Carefully flip the present over, while holding the ribbon in place. Secure the lower ribbon with a piece of double-sided tape on top then place the lace on top (securing it with the top of that same double-sided piece of tape). I didn’t tape the ribbon to the box (personal preference), but you could do that as well or instead. (Images 15-17)
13. Flip over and fill the pockets with anything else you want to gift or decorate the present with.
*Note, the size/amount of the paper, ribbon, and tape will vary based on the size of the present you are wrapping.
