This DIY New Year’s Eve Cotton Candy Ball Drop Drink is a fun way to start the new year with edible glitter and cotton candy.

I have been wanting to try these cotton candy drink balls for a while now, and I finally found a super special opportunity to try them!
There are tons of options if you want to order them online, but I decided to try to make them so I could customize them into DIY New Year’s Eve Cotton Candy Ball Drops.
Honestly, this is a bit of a sticky DIY recipe (just when making them, not really when serving them), but the results are so fun and totally worth it, especially if you are hosting a sparkling New Year’s Eve party.
We added a clear soda to our drinks for this fun recipe, and while I originally used both silver and gold glitter in the center of these cotton candy balls, the silver edible glitter didn’t have as pretty of a result as the gold, so I switched to only gold.
But you could use any color of cotton candy and any color of edible glitter that you like best!
And wouldn’t these be so fun to drop into your drink as you countdown to midnight and watch the NYC ball drop?

Materials (click item to shop):
Water, on a plate
Gold Sprinkles, on a plate
Ladle or Tiny Bowl
Cotton Candy (click here for some alternatives)
Instructions:
1. First, flip your cup upside down and place the rim of the cup in the water.
2. Gently shake off the excess water above the water plate and then place the rim of the cup into the plate of gold sprinkles.
3. Carefully spin/twirl the cup so that the rim of the cup is covered in sprinkles.
4. Repeat the above steps on all of your cups. Set to the side.
5. Place a handful of cotton candy in the ladle and pat it down so that it forms the shape of the ladle (hemisphere).
Then remove it from the ladle and set it to the side. Repeat this step.
6. Take one of the cotton candy hemispheres and sprinkle the edible gold glitter into the hollow center. Note: A little goes a long way.
7. Place the second cotton candy hemisphere on top of the first one (that has edible glitter inside of it) and gently squeeze/press the edges of the two hemispheres together so that they stay together to create a sphere/ball shape.
8. Repeat steps 5-7 until you have created as many New Year’s Eve Cotton Candy Ball Drops as you need.
9. Add a drink to your coupe cups, then let your guests drop their New Year’s Eve Cotton Candy Balls into their drinks and watch them swirl with sparkles.
Enjoy!
