Spray Painted Lace Pots

I love herbs, unfortunately this is my third batch of herbs since Roger and I got married. My first set of herbs died in the summer heat last year when we went away on vacation and the second group of herbs died during our move. So hopefully this new batch will survive the summer.

Spray Painted Pots

This time I wanted something extra pretty for my herbs but I didn’t want anything too expensive. So I first headed to the dollar tree because last summer they had some clay terra cotta pots, but they didn’t have any, so long story short I headed to Walmart next.

Lace Trimmed Painted Pot

Of course Walmart has a lot of pots in a variety of sizes. So after going through all of the pots trying to pick out the most perfect ones, I found three that I liked in three different sizes. I was so excited about this project, but because of the storms that swept through the south I had to paint the pots one day and then wait several days before taking the pictures. That also meant I had to wait to make the Cilantro Lime Rice that I shared with you yesterday because I basically used all of the cilantro on our small herb plant for the recipe.

Doily Painted Pot

What you’ll need:

Terra Cotta Pots

White Spray Paint – I used the interior/exterior Walmart brand that is under $1.00

Blue Spray Paint – I used  Krylon ColorMaster Blue Ocean Breeze Indoor/Outdoor (I love the color and liked that it says it will drie in 10 minutes or less)

Lace or Doily

Safety Pins

Newspapers or plastic bags or painting cloth

Something to set the pots on – I used cans

Several Layers of White Paint

First, lay out your newspaper and place the pots on top of something (this will allow you to be able  to paint the pots better) – I used cans and a new pack of index cards to lift them up. Next, layer on a few coats of white paint, letting the pots dry between each coat.

Paint Blue

Next, spray paint the areas you want to add the lace or doily look to with the blue paint – letting the paint dry between each coat.

Safety Pin the Lace

Once the paint has dried attach the lace to the pot by pulling it tight and holding it together with a safety pin. The wider lace the more safety pins you might need.

Place Doily on Pot

If you are using a doily, place the pot on its side, and place the doily on the pot.

Spray Paint Lace and Pot White

Spray paint the pots white over the lace and doily – letting it dry between each coat until the blue paint is no longer visible and your pot is completely white.

Pretty Painted Lace Pot

Once the paint has completely dried remove the doily and the lace to find your beautiful new Painted Lace Pots.

Large Painted Lace Pot

I am seriously in love with these Painted Lace Pots and I am thinking I might want to start growing flowers as an excuse to paint more pots!
