Rice Krispy Bird Nests

For years my mom has been making little edible bird nests for wedding showers & weddings. I can’t remember specifically what she uses for her twigs (I’ll have to call her tonight & ask), so I decided to take her concept for edible bird nests & turn it into something that uses what I already have on hand & is very kid friendly. Of course the first thing that came to mind was rice krispy treats – probably because it’s been months since I had one!

These little Rice Krispy Bird Nests are absolutely adorable & so incredibly easy to make. Plus you can make them in under 30 minutes, which makes this recipe the perfect last minute dessert for a spring party or your child’s classroom Easter party!

What I love most about these Rice Krispy Bird Nests is that they can double as decor for your spring party & a yummy dessert that everyone will enjoy!

Makes approximately 10 Rice Krispy Bird Nests

Ingredients:

2 Tablespoons Butter

2 Cups of Marshmallows – mini or regular size

3/4 Cup Chocolate Chips or Melting Chocolate

3 Cups Rice Krispies

Muffin Pans – Optional

Easter Candy

I only used chocolate for this recipe, but if you really liked my Fall Rice Krispies Treats you can easily split the 3/4 cup between the different chips. Oh & if you want to see pictures of what the melted marshmallows will look like check out the above link.

First, melt the 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat, then add the 2 cups of marshmallows to the butter and stir it in over medium heat. Continue to stir the marshmallows until they have melted in – be careful not to burn them – then add the 3/4 cup of chocolate chips & continue to stir until the chocolate has melted into the marshmallows.

Then, fold in 3 cups of rice krispies.

Then mold the rice krispies to the inside of your muffin pan. Stick your rice krispies filled muffin pan in the freezer for 5-10 minutes then pop the Rice Krispy Bird Nests out with a butter knife. If you don’t want to dirty a muffin pan or don’t care if they all have a unison appearance you can also form the bird nests with your hands.

I made them both ways & the ones you see pictured I formed by hand, I think I like them better this way.
