DIY Faux Olive Tree

How to create a DIY Faux Olive Tree that’s over 6 feet tall and under $50.

I am so excited to share with you how I created an 8-foot-tall Faux Olive Tree!

But before I dive into this DIY, I thought I should note that no live trees were harmed in the making of this faux tree.

For the base of my tree, I searched our woods for a small tree that had fallen over due to wind or storms.

And I didn’t have to look far before I found one!

I actually found two that were pretty good, but the first one was too fragile and brittle.

The second one seemed perfect, but after I put it in concrete I discovered that it was a little more fragile than I expected.

This isn’t a big deal for a stationary tree, but I like to move our furniture and decor around, especially for during the different seasons and holidays.

Although, since it was so simple to make, I could easily and quickly make another one.

I love it so much I’m tempted to make more for other areas of our house!

I’ve bought quite a few faux stems and garlands over the years and have come to the realization that garlands are less expensive than stems and can easily be cut up to create anything you want.

As I was looking for olive garlands I found that they looked very similar to willow garlands but less expensive!

And while the willow garlands don’t have faux olives on them, I figured that didn’t matter too much since my real olive tree doesn’t have olives on it either.

So while you could use faux olive stems with olives on them or cut up an olive garland, I decided to go with the least expensive option.

And this pack of 5 willow garlands was perfect!

I hope this tutorial helps you create your dream faux olive tree!

Materials:

Tree – I found one that had fallen but wasn’t completely rotten

Large Metal Can – I washed out a used one of these

Concrete

Willow Garland (I ordered a set of 5)

Cutting Pliers

Brown Floral Wire

Instructions:

1.First, find a fallen tree that isn’t too fragile.

2. Next, follow the packaging instructions to mix/make the concrete.

3. Place the base of the tree in the metal can and fill the can with concrete. Let dry/harden thoroughly.

4. Cut the willow garland into olive stems at your desired length and bend the stems into natural angles.

5. Attach the faux olive stems to the tree by wrapping the floral wire around the stem and tree branch.

6. Continue this process until your tree is covered with stems. Be sure to add smaller ones lower down for a more natural look.

7. Carefully place your new DIY Faux Olive Tree in a basket or indoor planter and place it anywhere in your home. No need for sun!
