What is summer without a glass of ice-cold lemonade?

Last year, I shared a Fresh Homemade Lemonade recipe with you all, and this year I decided it would be fun to turn my favorite lemonade recipe into this Sweet Strawberry Lemonade.

I knew it was going to be good (as I enjoy taking the time to develop recipes until they are just right), but I wasn’t expecting it to instantly become my new favorite lemonade recipe.

This Sweet Strawberry Lemonade is full of fresh fruits, bright flavors, and is oh so perfectly sweet.

And I (accidentally) learned some super awesome make-ahead tips that work great for creating this recipe for a family gathering or 4th of July party this summer.

This Sweet Strawberry Lemonade is a homemade lemonade recipe using fresh lemons, fresh strawberries, and a homemade simple syrup for a fun summer drink treat your whole family will love.

So here is what happened. I made the simple syrup and then realized that I didn’t have enough strawberries. So I put it in the fridge and a day or two later I bought more strawberries.

The day I planned to make this Sweet Strawberry Lemonade was very busy, so I didn’t get around to pureeing the strawberries until near the end of the day.

But the clouds rolled in, and it became too dark to photograph the recipe. So I poured into a container, sealed it, and placed it in the freezer because I wasn’t sure when I would have the opportunity to make it.

When I finally had time to make it, all I had to do was let the strawberries defrost, squeeze the lemons (I used this), and combine the ingredients, but if you want to do this ahead of time too, I’ve read online that freshly squeezed lemon juice can last 2-3 days, in the refrigerator.

So you could easily make the simple syrup, puree the strawberries, and squeeze the lemons ahead of time, and then just combine, and stir, all of the ingredients together when it’s time to make it for a family gathering or party!

And I’m so glad I waited because this Sweet Strawberry Lemonade deserved good pictures because it is such a refreshingly sweet summer treat!

  • Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

Scale

Simple Syrup Ingredients

  • 2 Cups White Sugar
  • 2 Cups Water

Lemonade

  • 2 Cups Strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 2 Tablespoons White Sugar
  • 2 Cups Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice (approximately 812 lemons)
  • 47 Cups Water
  • Ice, optional
  • Lemon Slices, optional
  • Strawberry Slices, optional

Instructions

  1. First, create the simple syrup by bringing the 2 cups of water and 2 cups of sugar to a simmer in a small saucepan at medium heat, whisking occasionally.
  2. Once the sugar has dissolved and is mostly clear, about 3-5 minutes, remove the pot from the heat and set it to the side to cool.
  3. Next, place the 2 cups strawberries and 2 tablespoons of white sugar in a food processor and blend until smooth.
  4. Pour the pureed strawberry juice, lemon juice, and the cooled simple syrup into a large pitcher.
  5. Pour 4 cups of water into the pitcher and stir well.
  6. Taste the Sweet Strawberry Lemonade and add more water (1/2 cup at a time, to taste) if you would like to dilute it more. *(1)
  7. Chill for 1-2 hours or add ice (which when melted will dilute the Sweet Strawberry Lemonade more).
  8. Serve with lemon slices and strawberry slices.
  9. Enjoy!

Notes

  1. This will depend on the sweetness/acidity of the lemon and personal preference.
