5 tips to create a patio paradise in your backyard this summer.
I am so excited to share with you a peek at our covered patio along with some of my favorite Wayfair outdoor finds!
You may have caught a glimpse of some of the outdoor decor last week when I shared a new tutorial for DIY Black Aged Terra Cotta Pots.
And while I still have one more fun DIY for this space coming soon, I thought I’d go ahead and share some of our favorite Wayfair outdoor decor pieces before sharing the final covered patio reveal later this week.
So today I’ll be sharing some simple tips to help you create your own patio paradise this summer with the help of Wayfair!
1. Find the Perfect Spot
While designing our home we created a few different patio spaces off of the back of our house and we decided that the first one we wanted to decorate was the main covered patio off of our family room.
We chose this space because it has a fan to help keep us cool during the hotter parts of the summer.
Plus it’s covered so we can enjoy sitting outside during a light rain without having to worry about getting wet.
2. Choose a Color Scheme
Next up, we chose a color scheme to ensure that everything would fit together.
You can choose one before you get started or decide on one as you decorate.
I’ve found that having a color scheme can help ensure that the whole space has a put-together, stylish, and more relaxed atmosphere.
Normally I prefer lighter colors and I actually had a very different color scheme in mind when we started, which included whites and blues.
But as we began picking out furniture and decor I quickly swapped to this neutral, black, white, and green color scheme for this space.
3. Add Cozy Textiles
Cushions on your patio furniture and an outdoor rug are a great start to adding textiles to your outdoor space.
You can also add some pillows and a light blanket for cooler summer nights.

4. Add Light
Having additional light is an easy way to make sure that the fun never has to end.
We added light both with string lights hanging from above as well as 4 different sized lanterns with added candles (our 4 lanterns include a large, medium, and small black lantern as well as a gold lantern).
This space becomes extra magical and fun at night!

5. Add Height
And lastly, a great way to tie the whole space together and connect the hanging string lights down to the rug is by adding height.
An easy way you can do this is through decor and plants in various sized pots, like this concrete pot.
I’m currently in the process of a fun DIY decor project that will add some nice height to this space that I plan to hang on the back of the fireplace wall.
Currently it’s drying in front of our house, but I’m hoping to share this fun project with you all this coming Sunday!
