Author:Giustina Miller
Ingredients
Scale
1/2 – 1 Gallon Apple Cider
Optional Additions
Cinnamon Sticks
Whole Allspice
Instructions
First, pour the apple cider into a large pot (along with the optional cinnamon sticks and/or whole allspice) and bring it to a boil.
Lower the heat and let it simmer to reduce, stirring every 15-30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, remove the cinnamon sticks and/or whole allspice.
Use a small mesh strainer or spoon to remove any debris floating on top.
Let it reduce to ~1/8 its original quantity. Let it reduce a little less for a syrup or a little more for a sauce.*(1-3)
Finally, drizzle your new apple cider syrup on your favorite fall treat.
Keep stored in a sealed container in your fridge for up to a month. Simply reheat to use.
Notes
It’s important to note that it will thicken more as it cools.
The time it takes depends on the size of your pot and the amount of apple cider you are reducing. A larger pot and 1/2 gallon of apple cider will reduce faster than a medium pot with 1 gallon of apple cider.
I reduced mine for ~1.5 hours (I got distracted by my sweet baby girl) and once cooled, it was a little thicker than I had planned, more like a sauce than a liquidy syrup.
