5 Pantry Organizing Tips and tools to help you organize your pantry and not waste food.

Simple Pantry Organization tools and tips to help you organize your pantry and not waste food.

Organizing our pantry before putting our house on the market was a high priority for us.

That might sound silly to some people, but having an organized pantry, drawers, cabinets, and closets is not only more appealing but it shows that the home has plenty of storage capabilities.

So I ordered a variety of organizational baskets, bins, jars, organizers, and storage containers to help tame our crazy pantry.

Then I used these 5 Pantry Organization Tips to organize our pantry and keep it organized.

5 Pantry Organizational Tips:

1. Remove everything from your pantry.

You can see this video on TikTok or this video on Instagram to see what our pantry looked like previously.

2. Check all best-by and expiration dates.

If a food item has a good best-by date, and it’s unopened, but you don’t think you will eat it, you can donate it to a food bank.

3. Organize food

Place food in storage containers and organization bins in order of importance and how often you use it.

I also put snack food and desserts further back, so it isn’t as quickly accessible.

After we go grocery shopping, I place the new items with the better best-by date in the back to ensure that closer best-by dates are consumed first.

4. Food labels & dates

Rather than labeling all of the containers, which will most likely go through the dishwasher and then ruin the label, I use a fine point sharpie and write the details underneath the plastic container.

I found that it scratches right off.

This may be controversial, as everything is these days, but it works for me!

I like to write what it is and the date I need to finish it by (best-by or expiration date).

5. Keep it Organized

When we bring in the groceries I make sure to put everything in its place immediately.

If for some crazy reason we don’t have time, I leave pantry food in the grocery bag on the floor and then do it when I have time (even if it’s only one bag at a time).

This ensures that the pantry doesn’t become unorganized again and that everything goes exactly where it belongs.
